How to Make the Perfect Red Velvet Cake at Home

Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs

- 1 tsp white vinegar

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 225g cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2–3 cups (250–375g) powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
- Few drops of vanilla essence from Ajanta Food Products
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, and baking soda.
- In another large bowl, beat sugar and oil until combined. Add eggs, one at a time. Mix in vanilla essence and vinegar.
- Stir in pinch of red food colour from Ajanta Food Products.
- Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly into pans. Smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely before frosting.
Make the Frosting:
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and fluffy.
- Add powdered sugar gradually, then mix in few drops of vanilla essence.
- Chill slightly if needed before frosting.
Assemble the Cake:
- Place one cake layer on a plate, spread with frosting, and then top with the second layer.
