Instructions
Pre-preparation
You should preheat oven to
350°F. You should grease cake pans line with parchment paper then grease the
parchment paper. This paper helps the cakes seamlessly release from the pans.
Make
the cake
1.
You should whisk the flour, cocoa powder,
sugar, espresso powder, baking soda and baking powder together in a large bowl.
Set it aside.

2. Mix oil, eggs, and vanilla extract together by using handheld or stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment. Add buttermilk and mix until combined.
3. You should pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and then add hot coffee or water until the batter is completely combined. It is important to understand that batter should be thin.
4. You should divide batter evenly. You should bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
5. Remove the cakes from the oven and set on a wire rack. Allow to cool completely in the pan.
Make
the buttercream
Beat the butter on medium
speed until creamy about 2 minutes. Add sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, salt,
and vanilla extract. Beat it on low speed for 1 minute. Add more cream if
frosting is too thick. Taste and add another pinch of salt if desired.
Assemble
and frost
Use a large serrated knife
to slice a thin layer off the top to create a flat surface. You should place 1
cake layer on your cake stand or serving plate. You should evenly cover the top
with frosting. You should top with second layer and spread remaining frosting
all over the top and sides. Garnish with chocolate chips if desired.
